One last match before the Euro break

Posted in Photo Journal on May 18th, 2012

Was back out photographing football yesterday evening. The weather was much nicer than last time and it was the final game I photograph before the Swedish league suspends for the Euro.

Even though the weather was much nicer a sunny day can be very annoying to photograph in. The sun was pretty high but very much from the side. Leaving the pitch half in the shade and half in the sun. You would often end up with situations where the background is very hot and the foreground is very cool. Which is a nightmare for the camera’s metering system. You end up continuously changing settings. Adding and removing exposure compensation, switching to spot metering, and so fourth.

Of sunshine and rain

Posted in Photo Journal on May 13th, 2012

Yesterday I was back on a football pitch and photographing the game between Djurgården and Åtvidaberg. The weather yesterday was all but normal, continuously going from sunny to rainy.

Since I started working with Pic-Agency I always debate with myself over how much rain gear to bring to a match. I have to say in the last year I’ve been extremely lucky. The few of my games where it’s been severe rain I had to give up to another photographer because another job was conflicting. However yesterday I had no doubts. Bring the umbrella!

Two days & a lot of work

Posted in Photo Journal on May 5th, 2012

The last two days have been pretty busy. Thursday night I covered a fairly low key Allsvenskan match between Djurgården IF and Örebro SK. Yesterday I spent all day at the Ice Hockey World Cup.

The football match was pretty lackluster, Örebro took an early lead thanks to a penalty but in the second half saw one of their players sent off and Djurgården turn the match and win.

Published in today's AftonBladet

Had a pretty busy week last week doing lighting on a 4 day TV commercial. A week full of early starts and extra long work days. So I was super grateful when the weekend rolled around and I got to head out to Stockholm Stadion camera in hand to shoot some football.

My Canon 1D Mark IV custom functions for sports photography

Posted in Tips & Tricks on April 18th, 2012

I’ve had my Canon 1D Mark IV for about a year now and really enjoy using it. It was my first professional grade camera. Before using the 1D I was shooting with a Canon 40D, and since I’ve started using the 1D I’ve never been able to look at the 40D quite the same.

The Canon 1D Mark IV comes with an unbelievable amount of custom settings and functions. For someone upgrading from a more consumer orientated model it can be quite intimidating to go through them and make sense of it all. A couple of months back I made a post with YouTube videos that explained a lot of the custom functions, but I wanted to revisit it. Share some more good resources and my own settings.
