This week saw the first ever derby match played in Stockholm’s new Tele2 Arena as Djurgården took on their hated cross city rivals AIK. Excitement for this match was sky high. For years security reasons forced Djurgården to play their home derby in AIK’s home stadium Råsunda. Having moved into Tele2 arena means Djurgården can again host high risk matches and no one wanted to miss out on the big spectacle.

This proved to be one of the more exciting derby’s I’ve gotten to cover. Goals started arriving immediately. Not even enough time for the smoke from the flares to clear out of the area. At the end of the first half the score was level 2-2 and neither side was able to break the deadlock in the second half. AIK was probably the stronger side in the first half, but Djurgården was considerably stronger in the second.
